An Alaska cruise is one of those travel experiences that is on a lot of bucket lists. I know it is on mine. Friends who returned from an Alaska cruise just last week reported it fulfilled all expectations.

Holland America offers both a seven day and a 14 day Alaska cruise from Seattle.

The seven day cruise typically stops at the Alaska stops of Juneau, Glacier Bay, Sitka and Ketchikan. There is also a stop in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Sitka was once a key Russian settlement and the capital of Russian America. The United States officially took possession of Alaska at this spot in 1867.

The fourteen day cruise additionally includes stops in Anchorage, Homer and Kodiak, a stop at Icy Strait Point and a viewing of Hubbard Glacier.

Hubbard Glacier is 400 years old, five miles wide and 40 stories high. It is one of the fasting moving glaciers on the continent.

There are a variety of optional excursions at the ports of call.
