Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square
As a longtime Northwest resident, I was surprised to hear that Hilton was opening Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square in spring of 2018. I was even more surprised when I looked on a map and checked out the location next to Safeco Field, which I think of as south of Pioneer Square.

Historic Pioneer Square went through a revitalization in the 1970s and 1980s and became the in place for locals seeking a night of jazz and good food. With the start of the 21st century Pioneer Square had lost its new shine, although a few landmark restaurants and small businesses continued to thrive.
The last time I had been to Pioneer Square, the area south heading towards Safeco Field was a blighted nondescript area of warehouses and empty buildings. I was unaware of the changes of the last five years and the growing food scene that came along with them.
This new hotel is modern, yet warm and inviting, and reflects the new look of the Pioneer Square area.
Location, Location, Location
When I arrived at the hotel I was delighted to find a vibrant neighborhood of boutique shops, restaurants, cafes and people. The ease of traveling to and from the hotel rivals that of European destinations. Within steps of the entrance is Sound Transit Light Rail Station International District Stop with direct service to and from SeaTac Airport. Also steps away is the Amtrak King Street Station providing connections throughout the United States.
From Safeco Field to Pike Place Market is easily explorable on foot, with a connection to Seattle Center and the Space Needle via the Seattle Monorail. Spring through Fall there is also the Downtown Seattle Free Shuttle with a Stop I within a block of the Embassy.
In the immediate vicinity of the hotel is a pedestrian only area that leads to Occidental Park. Seattle’s International District is also an easy stroll from the hotel.
Amenities at Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square
The hotel features the usual amenities to be found in a Hilton located in a major city; meeting spaces, valet service, meeting rooms and convention support.
The Fitness Room and Pool adjoin a rooftop deck with stunning views.
And the Embassy brand additions of an evening reception for all guest with free drinks and snack, and a cooked to order breakfast, seem a step above at this location.
Rooms at Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square
The Standard rooms all include 50-inch TVs, small kitchenettes with microwave and mini-refrigerators. The desk areas include an ergonomic chair, one of my favorite things in the room. I am surprised how many hotels are eliminating this necessity for working comfortably on the road. Another nice addition is an Amazon Echo.
I was in a two-room suite with a separate room for sleeping.
The large bathroom with tiled stall shower felt quite luxurious.
Personally, the only design flaw for me in the room was the sliding barn door between the bathroom and living area, repeated between the bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom is directly off of the kitchen and dining area and has a gap that I found uninviting. Traveling alone on this trip, it was not an issue. I don’t think I would have been as comfortable if sharing the space, especially with a second couple (all rooms have hide-a-beds providing accommodations for up to four in a room).
For a truly memorable experience try on of the four penthouses, each unique, but all with balconies and spectacular views.
Dining Near Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square
Located in the hotel is the Zephyr Bar with the feeling of a neighborhood hangout featuring new twists on Northwest favorites, local brews and a variety of wines and cocktails.
Next door, with direct access from the Embassy lobby is a branch of 13 Coins, with an iconic history among Seattleites.
A few of my favorites restaurants in the area are:
Grand Central Bakery and Café with access from 1st Avenue or Occidental Park
For an after meal treat check out Intrigue Chocolate on your walk back to the hotel.
The London Plane looked intriguing. However, I did not have time to try it out
For a Seattle Food Truck experience, check out the food trucks at Occidental Square, eat and enjoy the vibe at the park.
Thank you to Hilton Hotels for hosting me during my stay. The opinions on the hotel are my own. Based on my experience, I will choose Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square again for a Seattle stay.
